Lovebird - A New Form
My second chance at a skeleton came shortly after the shrew. My little lovebird passed away in the beginning of the year. I knew I would miss her little blue shenanigans. I saw this as an opportunity to continue to learn, and to give her a new. At this time my dog had kicked up some bones in his digging in the yard. I used those to experiement with boiling some berries for dye. I boiled blueberries and blackberries, let it cool, and let the bones soak for a few hours. The came our a gorgeous dark purple.
I tried something similar with my lovebird's bones, but I still hadn't learned about degreasing yet, so the blue/purple didn't turn out very nice which you can see in the unevenness. I guess her ribcage/spine must have been less fatty since the dye held better with that. But I kind of like it now, it's a fun learning process and still when I look at her I can hear her signature squeaking fit.
